WiSATA - West Manggarai Swisscontact-AusAid Tourism Assistance

WISATA (2006-2008) is located in Labuan Bajo, Flores, aiming to achieving sustainable levels of local employment and skill formation opportunities through the facilitation of more effective eco-tourism promotion.

 

The project is financed by the Australian Government ANTARA program. It partners with the local government, tourism sector associations and the local tourism school.

 

Project activities include:

  • Introduction tourism sector planning through the Triple-A process (Atlas, Agenda and Aturan Main, or rules of the games)
  • Supporting local improvment in the availability and quality of tourism services and facilities (hotel & restaurants, land transportation, boat owners, guides, tour operators)
  • Improving international and national promotion of tourism in the target area

 

Highlights in 2008:

  • The triple A planning process has been institutionalized within the district government planning agency including the budget for 2009. The triple A secretariat set-up has been supported and the secretariat staff is now in the position to update the planning tools
  • 3 tourism sector associations (tour guide, tour and travel and the new Labuan Bajo hotel) have been strengthened in institutional and organizational capacity building. The associations are now in the position to offer an interesting package for the member benefits
  • 22,602 people have visited Labuan Bajo in 2008, a 91,5% increase from 2006 figure
  • The sales profit of brochures, postcards, and tourist maps are going to be used for future Tourism Forum activities
  • 32 local tourism officers are going to use the website, www.floreskomodo.com, to promote their products and services. 1,600 people visited the website each month
